The powers that be 2004; treating the masses like them asses.

March 02, 2004

My 14th year on the lecture circuit has always kept me pretty much focused upon the general mindset of younger america. Added to the fact of having teenagers and younger nieces, nephews etc.,im kept abreast of all those things thats of influence to their zones. 2004 has embarked upon the 25th year of recorded rap and now we're entering the area of rap grandparents believe it or not. Not just in the area of recording artists but in the listening audience as well.

The music business has long endorsed the promise of keeping itself exclusive, and leaving the masses ignorant about its runnings and framework. When it boils down to black music and on the larger scale black culture this ignorance runs amok. Its shown in the way the black public knows or recalls so little of the names, songs ,and events of the thing that reflected the soul of a inner nation. There's definitely no help from radio now since corporations have turned the thing from black to urban.Urban as i said before best means little or no black ownership, management ,and community accountability.Seemingly there's not a thing the hood can say about it being that they don't own it. And now that viacoms in its 5th year of owning BEt, the thought of owning a culture becomes reality.Since black culture has been that release thus for many years in amerikkka the leading reflection and outlet of soul, smart cats can see that being that the culture is followed as it is can lead to the culture dictating to the people.

My college lectures have seen bigger crowds these past 2 years than ever. Im not gonna pat myself on the back either although my topics of rap, race, reality and technology are things surrounded around the average collegiate mind and dipping down as far as 10 year olds. But for an artform so connected to black music, places and faces the facts about it, are increasingly becoming lopsidedly a greater interest to everybody else but blackfolk in amerikkka. The big sellout job of the culture to amerikkka has blunted the potential social growth it can give, and reduced it to packaged commodity. Every other ethnic section of people can supplement this with a panoramic balance of social roundness, but blackfolk still dealing with post slavery mentality in the millenium who have forever been told here that our past aint sht, our futures blurry, and present stutus is bottom can no longer afford this unrealistic signal as a collective.

So what does Chuck D mean within this matrix of a t-dome? Simple, although i know you cant measure intelligence when people are gifted in different areas..im just tired of hearing so called smart people make dumb ass excuses for stupidity. They may be blind and cant see, but then why should they even present an opinion without a damn fact. Yes , as ive said recently although hip hop/rap looks and sounds so similar to 25 years back;the mind and the soul have been extracted ...yeah, the corporate lobotomy to make it more consumptive for the masses. In my lectures i liken it to the scene in the first PLANET OF THE APES when Charlton Hestons character Taylor recognized his comrade captured across the square. As he gets closer still unrecognized,he spots a large horseshoe scar on the side of his head, indicating his brain had been cut out. Taylor then cursed the apes, saying that they cut out the brain because they knew he could talk. This in a way describes the rapgame today. Theres too many 30 year old men stooping to the mentality of a teenager. Thats wack. It should be the other way around. The gods of the dollar still wave em high across the heads, real pimpin them into selling pimp and hustler imagery basically to youth. Even the real pimps and hustlers back in the day told young kids to get off the block they were on an take their little asses to school. Seems like some real pimpin is going on here.

I seriously think that 90 percent of the artists in amerikkkan black music are steered away from the reality of the peoples needs. The appointed blackfaces that head these shrinking black music departments, are running out of excuses and dumb answers. Its inconceivable that these folk are really even tuned in to the mindset of 25 and unders needs, not just their wants. They have no idea or concern on what administrators, and teachers deal with, much less parents trying to grasp the massdata aimed and fired at young heads for the sole purpose of selling to them. Culture should be managed by the community which in turn gets picked up by a curriculum that can teach the past, how to navigate the present and future of the arts. When you dont do this you allow for it to be manipulated by business.

So we have what we have, and now the companies of culture are running scared from new FCC crackdowns, that everyone is blaming on JANET JAX superbowl flash. ClearChannel who owns hundreds of stations now is crackin down on material. Again we cannot blame the young people for what theyve selected, instead look at all these 25-50 year olds who've been pimpin their minds in lieu of getting to their or their parents pockets for their personal greed and capital showoff gain.. And people got the nerve to talk about MIKE JAX and R KELLY as if theyre the only ones?

Speaking of MIKE JAX why don’t these radio stations just play his latest records instead of talking about him for 3 hours at a blast….damn..

Avoided grammy and ALL STAR WEEKEND in LA at all costs..opting instead to record 10 joints for the two PE albums this year..did SHAQs auto concert for GM and told DIESEL thanx where he flipped it back to yours truly. Also on the bill were the GRANDMASTER FLASH and also BUSTA RHYMES..it felt like a fam reunion…

Puffster ripped ROCK THE VOTE with a speech that took SON OF A BUSH head to head. One should not be surprised ,because in his head is a smart concerned human being. Maybe its the beginning of cats speaking the real and not adhering to their business plans and that bullsht fallacy of street credibility ...for all its claimed to be i have never seen more than 15 streets named after blackheads and never recieved a cleared check from it...

Whirlwind tour what? Started out with JOHN CARROLL U in CLEVELAND at night hooked up and recorded track in MAULYs studio, assisted by BONNE CREAM,VAL 1,SHAWN CARTER,and cut on a C DOC track...it was a month of 25 recorded joints for this years 2 PE albums as well as lectures galore..SACRAMENTO STATE smack dab within the governator, ST JOES in PHILLY running into PAM AFRIKA of MOVE ,TEMPLE professor MICHAEL COARD...i always dig the southern runs...ALABAMA,CLAYTON STATE ATLANTA ,NORTH CAROLINA was right on point. It was a very energetic charged crowd there…

The next week was across the top of the land. Starting off in WESTERN KENTUCKY where some of the students thought I was gonna rap or something, but most of the 300 vibed to where the influence of culture was leading to in their lives, ILLINOIS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY had GENE BARGE, GINA BARGE and K-REK from AID and ASSIST stop down…Also did a SAVIORS DAY pre taped reparations interview for the NOI…hopefully got my last taste of winter at capacity crowds at U. MINNESOTA where SLUG from ATMOSPHERE visited…he said he wanted to tour with PE …I told him I’d love to see it happen, no doubt…jetted to SPOKANE WASH, then drove down to PULLMAN for WASHINGTON STATE where it was one of my most thorough lectures of the year…shouldve been taped…

Came back and rocked 5 joints with DJ JOHNNY JUICE.. for the PE album…. AIR CONDITIONING soul check pt I IF I GAVE YOU SOUL WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH IT? Soul check pt 2 Among the few….

Im trying to really feel the reason why KANYE WEST is a greater rapper than producer…then im trying to understand how somebody gets top notch producer credits for speeding up old records…then again I think his lyrics are decent but 855 of cats rhymin have the same voice with little difference in cadence. That’s like the NBA having 200 six foot point guards…

Whatever happened to the rap crews? I heard FREEDOM by GRANDMASTER FLASH AND THE FURIOUS 5 the other day and it still whips out 955 of todays sounds….standard people…standard…

Did TAVIS SMILEY show on PBS and always a pleasure to be interviewed by ( T.L.B.M. M.S.O.TV) the last black man making sense on television…theres no excuse not to catch him now since THE BOOTY EN THUG NETWORK cut him loose. On PBS you can now get him on an old Admiral black and white TV set with a hanger stuck in the top.

Allright , lookout ameriikkka , yours truly is gonna do a national talk show on radio. In thgis olympic /election year ima put the thing on blast. Its coming in an announcement real soon. AL FRANKEN is also on the network…brace yourselves…

Out and look for t-domes twice a month now ….now that I can write on my palmpilot PC…,eh?

Oh yeah about the USSA amerikkkan government trippin, worrying about who marries who is like worrying about another persons plate of food…

And tell the funkyprez stop worrying about how baseball players are using steroids…sheeeeesh!

Oh yeah im out to check out PASSION OF CHRIST…
