Street cred and what it takes to get some Shyne
August 21, 2004
The prison industry is booming in amerikkka, and in many cases corporate
slackness has marketed a mentality in hip hop that has fueled the system.
There is little prison reform in the world no less the USA, its as prisoners soon will
have to pay the price of death for the lack of skills needed to navagate
through life. Again the music without the knowledge, wisdom, and understanding
of it and life makes the naive masses flock to the hype, the illusion, and the
lowest common denominator, and this translates into the quick buck.
Of all the hardworking efforts of rappers, producers, and other artists in the
hip hop game, again the 'not give a damn' policy of these other-background bred
corporate exec bean counters rears its ugly ears. I dont know him personally
but from the outside looking in, the attention given to SHYNE by the industry
is a smack in the face to the good guy, and the diversity of the genre. I
do believe SHYNE was raised right in the home but corrupted by the same chain of
corporate
gangsters who promote the crime without doing the time. The covers given his
way by VIBE and XXL slap hard at the heads trying to pave road for artform.
Blackalicious,DP (both dilated peoples and dead prez) lifesavas, stand
little chance of getting any 'shine' through dollar devoted rapmedia. Are the
magazines so penny starved that they cant project a dedicated but lower
selling act to the forefront? SHYNE like his sonic mentor BIGGIE comes from
proud blackroot from BELIZE, as BIGs moms is from JAMAICA. Old school values
were installed early on in their lives. In the past 50 years since heavy immigration
the stereotype of hardest working, smartest, behaved youth from
carribean-central american families was more often more true than hype.
However in amerikkkan mainstream culture this aspect is never promoted.
So what happened? Was it the constant one way propaganda river of the rapgame, or
was it
the neglected streets of BROOKNAM as cats say?
When you watch people in the mainstream and CNN talking about streetcred,
that's a surefire sign that things pavlovic-ly are too far gone.....
Sidewalk university and the streetcred that supplies that existence is
nothing more but some uncle tom induced pimped out millennium bullsht.
Again whether its the streets or the rapgame, some dictated force comes from
outside to puppet the minds and actions of the masses. Prison life possibities have been
glorified in american culture since
the wild, wild west , and usually the tales evolved from people of lesser
opportunity and perceived less sense of self. In contrast the 20 years since
SCARFACE, the hispanic brown collective have stepped up as a nation within,
diversified with the broad array of skills from the basic
lawn-cut-carpentry-fix a roof thing to the degreed
programming-medcine-science-technology at the higher end. This while a nation of
blackfolk have been absorbed inside a one dimensional mass-illusion and not
included in that self- independency. The paid piper effects have led a black
hip hop nation to think and believe lower and less of themselves while
everyone looks from the outside and just calls it cultural entertaiment. The line is
defined in black-other because if you look on television and see rap you see a blackface
95% of the time.
Of all the voting movement drives from PUFF to RUSS it should be noted that
after getting peeps to register , then it will take just as much or more energy to get
cats to vote. The most convicted criminals in the USA cannot register or vote
while not having the right to get a valid US passport. This shows that you
cant get sht if you stay, nor you cannot leave. First physically you're trapped in the lower
48 box then mentally you concede in fact love the maze you're trapped in. To break those
chains are the ability to see and think beyond the 'box'.Global thought necessary for true
freedom, which are skills that come with education. And 'streetcred 2004 openly rejects
this while the bosses of all these companies, and distributors, are learned, lawyered, well
read, and degreed.
So all this street cred seems to roll off the top,as the thing to get rather
than an education, and yeah,' SHYNE's case says that he was a grown man in
control of his actions, but these cats need guidance ,rules, and regulations
for their own career good. It's as SHYNEs case is being used as a propped
example , again exploiting his artistic existence. A bidding war won for
exchange of his services sets off a diss-alarm for the rest of the hard
working hip hop nation continually looking for respect and organization in
the artform.
This knock is not exactly on SHYNE as much is the use of the sick cycle of
greed that has used the artform to suck minds, keep the blind blind, and to pay a
very limited select few to trick the masses of many. For those that even utter
the words 'long live hip
hop' they should best to do a thorough check on them culture bandits who are merely
wolves
in hip hop clothing. Simply, the message should be to keep headz out of the teeth of
the beast, aka 'lockdown',and THAT' should be the point of the so called hip
hop media and industry at least. And not those creatures looking for the lowest
common denominator to an easy paycheck. Give the good cats a round of salutes
and those that are upholding the artform ..because outside of this magazine i
don't see them get enough support.
This summer has been a new york state of mindset for me, and i've been spending much
of it prepping for september -december 04 and 2005. For all my surrounded people much
prepwork is also being reared for blast in 2005..the 18th year of public enemy. Professor
GRiff in addition to his production schedule is promoting his book the Atlanta Resource
Industry ..and his Hip Hop for kids project . He like i feels that too much of the artform
and music is targeted at kids to consume and not giving them enough progressive skills to
build. So there's much the professor is knockin out. James bomb and pop diesel are
moving forward with PE merchandise with their REBEL GEAR site coming in october.
Steve Jobs gets my money all the damn time. Ive been a apple cat since the mid ninties. My
computer literacy started with myself waiting for the mac g4 in 1998, and when i got it i
started flying. Just because i move around a bit, a laptop, mac notebook was perfect to
involve myself in the webworld. Fast forward to 2004, itunes is the sht. Yes, i've been a fan
yall know, of downloading since napster,kaaza,morpheus,etc....but this itunes music store,
library ,downloading access,artwork options
Are great and damn, this lined up with the ipod make the gift of music a part of ones life.
Then again the RIO and what ROB GLASER of REAL NETWORKS has done with his
Has not offended me either...bring the noise.
Often i catch great unheralded movies in the bargain bins in wal-mart and
blockbuster...HOW YOU LIKE ME NOW? With SALLI RICHARDSON and DARN LL WILLIAMS
was entertaining and groovin for a saturday afternoon.
The US olympic basketball problems parallel the rap problems...when there's no collective
structure and the full go up against the hungry. Money is one thing but some cats are
soooo well paid that theres not much to fight for. Or to build.
talking about tv-stupid the reality show that uses fear to be overcome so that immigrants
can win green-card privileges is just crazy and so exploitive at the same time. I have yet to
peep the surreal world episodes, but ive spoken to Flav and he is pretty cool with Stallone
ex Brigette Nielsen...they hang out sometimes ...well LA is better for Flav
And i spoke to her on the phone when they were hangin...im as bugged out as yall are...
People ask do i go away for vacations...this year i did New YORK
and it was very cool..also since i've finished implementation of sites, music, structure etc..i
will be a more frequent visitor to the new boards over on publicenemy.com.
Anybody catch my Chuck D worldwide hip hop countdown show on netscape
@aol ..its a tight countdown show soon to be heard on radio near you. Still i suggest you
peep it on the web...
theres an acapella of MKLVFKWR thats launching remixuniverse.com right about now.
Those that have the skills can grab it under public enemy at SLAMjamz.com where our first
offline releases (impossebulls,7th Octave.,No Boundaries) are happening october 5th
My birthday was extremely low-key and from september on the PE machine will be half
heated up doing some scattered gigging
The high school movie FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS the young man who played in ANTWONE
FISHER is wearing a classic black and gold PE satin jacket.
My man Detroit native Private MILITANT has emerged with his new album .One Man
Against Many 15 tracks of rhyme radical fire on WARLORD RECORDS..www.pvtmilitant.com
He will be appearing in yet another project..as a member of the IMPOssebulls SLAVE
EDUCATION on slamjamz cd/dvd in october..also peep www.prisonplanet.com for more
details ...
On top of all this i really dont understand this millennium thing of being a celebrity
without really doin sht. The whole HILTON thing is typical of american culture , but now
being a part of the hip hop standard is a bit crazy. I remember like it was yesterday that it
took more than a 15 minute conversation to convince RICK RUBIN in 1986 that FLAVOR
FLAV was very necessary. Beyond all this the fact is that FLAV is multi-talented as with the
gigs this year where hes opening up playing wicked drums.
.
www.mcrensofficialsite.com is NWA Hall Of Famer MC RENs website..go check it out ,..its
always better when cats speak for them damn selves...peep it...
