Mr. Chuck Narrates for Dr. J Documentary
Julius Erving, is an oft-lauded member of the National Basketball Association fraternity of ‘greatest-to-ever-play the game’. It comes as no surprise, then, that the NBA Originals has chosen Dr. J as the inspiring topic for a much-anticipated documentary. His efforts and grace, on an off the basketball court, are legendary.
The voice you will hear, narrating the chronicle of Erving’s life, will undoubtedly enhance the story. It will also sound very familiar.
Chuck D was asked to take part in the project, not only for his powerful oratorical skills, but because he shares a geographical bond with the storied b-baller. In the song ‘Politics of the Sneaker Pimps’ Public Enemy draws attention to the sometimes parasitic and opportunistic relationships between corporations and young basketball phenoms.
“Hey, Dr. J! Where you got those moves?” – Public Enemy, “Politics of the Sneaker Pimps”
Both Erving and Mr. Chuck cut their teeth on ‘Strong’ Island, New York, in the town of Roosevelt. They each attended, and graduated from, Roosevelt Junior-Senior High School.
The documentary, entitled ‘The Doctor’, premiered on NBA TV, June 10th, between games two and three of The Finals.
