The Roast of Flavor Flav
August 12th, 2016

On this day in 2007, Comedy Central hosted The Roast of Flavor Flav, where some of the entertainment industry's biggest comedians spent an evening clowning around with everyone's favorite hype man.

"You know I would never let you do anything that makes you look ridiculous," Chuck D says at the start of the show. "[Tonight] they're going to talk about you're the most wonderful, talented human being alive," Chuck says as he escorts his old friend to the event.

Hosted by Katt Williams, and featuring comedy sets from Patton Oswalt, Jimmy Kimmel, Lisa Lampinelli, Jeff Ross, the late, great Greg Giraldo, and appearances from fellow musicians Snoop Dogg, DJ Spinderella, and Ice T, Comedy Central's Roast of Flavor Flav pulled no punches, and everything from Flavor Flav's love life, his family, to his TV series was the subject of some harsh jokes. Flav's famous sense of humor allows him to take it all in stride though, as he smiles and laughs with the audience the entire time.

"Flavor Flav is the reason President Bush doesn't like black people," Jimmy Kimmel joked.

While host Katt Williams would later regret the amount of racially insensitive jokes made about Flav's skin tone, the night was mostly a success, mixing equal parts brutal humor with loving respect for Flav.

"You are one of my true friends in hip hop... and I love you, man, from the bottom of my motherf*ckin' heart," Ice T said.

"If it wasn't for you, Flavor Flav, there wouldn't be no Snoop Dogg... I love you for being you at all times," Snoop Dogg said.

Despite the hour long barrage of jokes and insults, Flav ended the night in good spirits. "It's been a great honor to be made fun by all of these talented people... I've been through some hard times, but tonight? Your man Flavor Flav is back on top."
